After a phone call this morning from one of my best friends it got me thinking? (Yes thinking!)
She had what I would call ‘a scene from a ROM COM movie’. Picture the knight in shining armor with the pouring rain and magically music. We talk a lot lately about guys and relationships – a HUGE topic for young women, whether we admit it or not. Deep down inside most girls want to be romanced. Often the problem is we want to be loved and appreciated so much, that we sell ourselves short to guys that are anything but our “Knight in Shining Armor.”
As a child I dreamed of finding an Irish rogue to ask for my hand in marriage. We would settle down, somewhere in the west perhaps, build a mansion and our red-haired and freckled children would roam free in the Irish countryside. However it was a fast track slap in the face when I started dating proper in my 20’s.
I am not writing this post to say that all men are the same and go on a rant, but these are my own experiences, with a few thoughts from other girls thrown into the mix. Of course times change and anyone that knows me knows I'm not keen on marriage, but for now back to dating.
Dating can be a horrible time in a relationship. A time when you have to pretend you always blow dry your hair and never listen to Elton John in the car while singing like a cat. But it can also be a really enjoyable time and that’s something I have forgot. Why? Well the last few men I have dated have been more of ‘weirdo’ then a knight. I have been on dates where I was straight up asked for sex, yes I left very fast, to meeting a man so nervous that I had a conversation with the waiter more than him. I have met all walks of life, the one that’s not over the ex-girlfriend, the one that after four dates wants to ‘happily marry me’, to being used and abused by men to falling hard for someone that was just too selfish to care about anyone outside of his own world.
But I had hope this morning, I may be crazy, I may be silly, but the odd time that little girl comes out in all of us, OK the man may not arrive on a horse dressed in shining armor, but he may love you with all he has. So just think of these romantic/lovable moments like my friend and keep the hope…
1. Remember crying during 'Up' when Mr. Fredrickson still talked to Ellie every day, even after she died?
2. Remember how, in 'Sweet Home Alabama,' Melanie and Jake fell in love as kids? You believed you would marry your first love, but it was still love either way...
3. The moment we all wished would happen...
4. The quote....
The story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye, the story of love is hello and goodbye...until we meet again”
5. You may have never thought a fish tank could be romantic, but doomed couple Romeo and Juliet's flirtatious first meeting through the glass makes it happen. Maybe it's the sexy soundtrack by Des'ree (or is it young Leo's irresistible grin?) but, suddenly, we want an aquarium of our own.
6. Lord of the Rings.... I would rather spend one lifetime with you than face all the years of this world alone. ( Ah Jays-us, even Fordo had hope....)
7. Dora the fish
"No. No, you can't… STOP. Please don't go away. Please? No one's ever stuck with me for so long before. And if you leave… if you leave… I just, I remember things better with you. I do, look. P. Sherman, forty-two… forty-two… I remember it, I do. It's there, I know it is, because when I look at you, I can feel it. And-and I look at you, and I… and I'm home. Please… I don't want that to go away. I don't want to forget."
8. Everyone has the kiss they never forget..
( And yes I had this moment)
So we all have had our hearts broken, even men have. But you still have to believe, because if you don't then your missing out, because the person that hasn't tried.... hasn't lived.
Sarah that's gorgeous. You really have found your niche as a writer my friend! Xx
